What is the zombie AI trend?

The zombie trend is a short AI video in which one person is still human and someone they love has turned into a zombie. Instead of a chase there is recognition and an embrace. It is made from real photos, so the two people on screen are the creator and their partner, pet, friend or parent, which is why it hits harder than a stock horror clip.

When it started

The trend broke out on TikTok in early October 2026, and the same clips now turn up on Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts too. Searches for “zombie trend ai”, “zombie ai video” and the tools behind it rose with it, and with Halloween on October 31 it has kept going.

The original format

  1. The gun you cannot fire. The survivor aims at the approaching zombie, crying, hands shaking.
  2. Recognition. The zombie stops; their eyes meet; the gun slowly comes down and the arms open.
  3. The leap. The zombie runs and jumps into the hug.
  4. The hard cut. On the hug, the clip cuts to a bright, happy memory of the two of them before.

The caption is usually “Would you still love me if I were a zombie?” The hug moment itself has become a meme of its own; the zombie hug explained goes deeper into that scene.

The variations

  • Couples. The classic: a zombie girlfriend or boyfriend, depending on who turns. There are 6 couple stories here, from The Last Embrace to Till Death and After.
  • Pets. A zombie dog whose tail still wags, or a cat who ignores you and then climbs into your arms. See the zombie pet AI version.
  • Friends and family. Best friends, siblings, a mother and her grown-up child. The structure is the same; the bond is what changes.
  • Solo transformation. No hug, just one person slowly turning into a zombie. Try the zombie filter for that.

How people make it

  • Templates. CapCut templates were widely shared at the start, one of them reported as “My Beloved Zombie”. Fast, but often one photo and a filtered still. Compare them in CapCut template vs AI.
  • AI video generators. Tools such as Dreamina, Kling, PixVerse, Higgsfield and Google Flow generate new footage from reference photos. Searches for Seedance 2.5, ByteDance’s video model and the one this site uses, rose alongside the trend; see the Seedance zombie trend guide.
  • Prompts. In a general generator you write the scene yourself. Start from our zombie trend prompts.

Questions

When did the zombie trend start on TikTok?

It broke out in early October 2026, around the first of the month. Couples are the classic version, and pet, friend and family versions are common too. It is an AI video trend, so most clips are generated from photos rather than filmed.

What is the original zombie trend video?

The format most people copy: the survivor aims a gun at their zombie partner and cannot fire, the zombie recognises them, the gun drops, the zombie leaps into a hug, and the clip hard-cuts to a happy memory. The usual caption is “Would you still love me if I were a zombie?”

Is there a zombie trend template?

CapCut has had zombie templates that people used for the trend, though which ones exist changes often. On this site each story works like a template: you pick it, add two photos and the scene is already directed.

Can I do the zombie trend with one photo?

Yes. The zombie filter mode takes one photo and makes a 15 second video of that person turning into a zombie. The couple version needs two photos, one per person.
